BIO DJ Honey:
DJ Honey of FUNK40K
Born and raised in South Yonkers, NY during the dawn of hip hop, break dancing, B-Boy culture and THRILLER, she was exposed to everything and anything the 80’s could throw at a young girl during perhaps one of the most culturally and musically diverse eras in modern music.
She has been a fairly serious music student since the age of 7 and plays several instruments. Her first ‘HOUSE MUSIC’ party was at age 13 – and proper at that! The venue was a low ceiling, linoleum-floored basement party in a shady neighborhood with people twice her age.
2 decades have passed since that memorable evening during which she has played in several rock and jazz bands while fiercely collecting music of every genre. She even worked at a country music radio station.
She believes that being a DJ is about being a fan, a collector and a student. She is truly blessed for having had 2 amazing DJs [Mr. Danomyte and DJ Griz]; guide her in the direction of thumpin’ Chicago House and it was game over from then on. She is lost in the music and there is no return.
DJ HONEY holds a Sunday night radio residency: “ALL SYSTEMS UNDERGROUND with FUNK40K” along with her husband, DJ GRIZ on The-Lost-Art.com
She also partners with Griz, Danomyte, Diggy, G-Ron & Soulstar to promote underground House Music and its culture on New York City based ElectronicRhythm.com
She uses Technics 1200’s, a Vestax analog mixer, a combination of vinyl & Serato and over 2 decades of collecting & selecting to form the driving sound of FUNK40K: NY BOUNCE, CHICAGO THUMP & WEST COAST SOUL.
